BETWEEN TIDES · YOUR LOCAL GUIDE

Discover Ocean Point

A little place called OP.

At the end of the Boothbay peninsula, where granite meets the Atlantic, a very special corner of Maine is waiting to be discovered.

THE OP WAY OF LIFE

Some places you visit.
Others stay with you.

Ocean Point isn’t a busy resort district. That’s part of its charm. Here, the pleasures are simple: a walk beside the water, the sound of lobster boats, a quiet trail, and the extraordinary way the light changes over the Atlantic.

Our family has summered here since 1927. These are a few of the places and traditions that have made OP feel like home for generations.

Take your time. You’re at the Point.

01 / THE SIGNATURE OP WALK

Follow Shore Road.
Follow the sea.

Bring your walking shoes. Our favorite longer circuit around OP is approximately 3.5 miles, following neighborhood roads and the scenic shoreline for part of the route.

Watch for granite ledges, summer cottages, fishing boats, seabirds, and views toward Ram Island Light and The Cuckolds.

A much shorter public shoreline walk is also available. Stay on public paths, respect private property, and be careful around waves, wet rocks and narrow roads.

02 / LIFE AT THE WATER’S EDGE

A little cove.
A lot to love.

Grimes Cove is one of those places that rewards slowing down. Watch the boats move through the water, look for shells and interesting stones, and admire the rocky islands offshore.

The shifting tides, sea breezes and ever-changing light mean no two visits look quite the same.

Enjoy designated public access areas and check local conditions before exploring.

03 / BEYOND THE SHORELINE

Among the trees.
Away from it all.

At Ocean Point Preserve, the Norman Van Horn Trail winds through woodland and wetland habitat, with a loop of approximately 0.9 miles.

The short Golden-crowned Kinglet Trail leads toward a wildlife viewing area near Tibbetts Pond. Bring your binoculars, look for birds, and enjoy a quieter side of OP.

A COAST THAT INSPIRES

For writers, readers
& dreamers.

Naturalist and author Rachel Carson spent summers on nearby Southport Island. Her book The Edge of the Sea celebrates the extraordinary world where land and water meet.

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Richard Ford also made a home in East Boothbay overlooking Linekin Bay.

Bring a favorite book, a journal or the beginning of a story of your own. There is room here for all three.

A LITTLE LOCAL ETIQUETTE

Love OP. Leave it lovely.

Stay on public trails and designated shoreline access points, respect neighboring homes, and leave tide pools and wildlife undisturbed. Shore Road is narrow in places, and coastal rocks can be slippery.

Take the memories. Leave the beauty.
